EDSA_XXX_Poster.jpg

EDSA XXX by Khavn dela Cruz

In EDSA XXX, Khavn takes us forward to 2030, the year of the 30th EDSA revolution. Have you ever wondered why nothing changes despite countless presidents? Here the answer is given in the form of an absurdist cross between low-budget science-fiction musical and crazy political satire. See how, after the fall of Nigger Thunder, a simple tramp is elevated to three-eyed new leader by the Freedom Fighters disguised with shopping bags, the dauntless fighters against freedom. Dis-cover with Three Eyes who is really pulling the strings and get to know a resistance movement of mermaids wearing blue leggings.

Barberstales280.jpg

Barber's Tales by Jun Lana

Barber's Tales is set in the rural town in the Philippines during the end of Marcos dictatorship, and tells the story of newly widowed Marilou (Eugene Domingo) who inherits the town's only barber-shop from her husband- a business that has been passed down by generations of men in her hus-band's family. With no other means of support, she musters the courage to run the barbershop. But as to be expected, she fails to attract any customers. But a touching act of kindness she extended to Rosa, a prostitute who works in the town brothel, leads to an unexpected opportunity. Rosa, who now considers Marilou a friend, urges her prostitute friends to pressure their male clientele into patronizing Marilou's barbershop. The men have no choice but to grudgingly oblige out of fear that Rosa will expose their infidelity to their wives.

Miss Bulalacao by Ara Chawdhury

“Miss Bulalacao” is about a young drag queen, Dodong, who joins a barangay (village) gay pag-eant to gain acceptance in his father’s community. He instead faces hostility from his father, who chases him to a jungle, where he sobs to a lone bright star. What follows is the strangest night in his entire life, and an even stranger nine months when he realizes he is pregnant. With only his stepmother, Lisa, as a support, Dodong deals with ridicule from the people who do not believe him – until his predicament becomes a tabloid headline: “Bakla, ina ng Diyos!”

Kapatiran280.jpg

Kapatiran by Pepe Diokno

With deadly fraternity wars among Filipino youth as an impetus, "Kaptiran" becomes a cinematic essay about the filmmaker's hometown of Manila. Blurring fact and film together, it is a bleak, dis-jointed portrait of a disjointed people; a meditation on its social cancer.

Missing_Picture.jpg

The Missing Picture by Rithy Panh

For many years, the director have been looking for the missing picture: a photograph taken be-tween 1975 and 1979 by the Khmer Rouge when they ruled over Cambodia...On its own, of course, an image cannot prove mass murder, but it gives us cause for thought, prompts us to med-itate, to record History. The director searched for it vainly in the archives, in old papers, in the country villages of Cambodia. Today he knows: this image must be missing. He was not really looking for it; would it not be obscene and insignificant? So he created it. What he gives us today is neither the picture nor the search for a unique image, but the picture of a quest: the quest that cin-ema allows.
