THE POLITICS OF DETENTION
The Politics of Detention (circa 1984) is a film on the political prisoners in the country — their predicament, condition, and struggle for justice. It was made by Haring Ibon and produced by KAPATID (Families and Friends of Political Prisoners). The digital access copy to be used in the online screening came from a magnetic tape (Betamax) duplicate copy.
In 1983, following the assassination of Senator Benigno Aquino, counter propaganda materials were being disseminated to the public through a novel home video medium of the times: Betamax. Betamax '83 collects these materials into a found film, telling a story of resistance during a period of media censorship by the state, that omits images of the dictator.
